Something inside of me jumped when she laughed. "We? You're coming with me? Sir, with all due respect, I don't need backup. She wanted an SUV, but those things roll, man.
Soon everyone was laughing. "You all got a problem with my minivan?" Terry glared. You should take my minivan" Terry offered.
Meanwhile, I'll be waiting in an undercover vehicle here" I said. I'm gonna plant a decoy squad car as bait. "Did you just say "genital-man"? Because if so, kudos, and yes, I have a plan. How are these guys detectives? "I assume you have a plan to catch this gentleman" Holt said. But what are those little round things at the bottom?" Hichcock questioned. "Peralta, brief us on the vandalism case." "Well, there's no easy way to put this, sarge, but someone has been painting wieners on squad cars. Ever since Terry found out that Ash was younger he always called her 'widdle' Diaz. "Dream team" Charles murmured. Take Boyle and 'widdle' Diaz" Terry chucked. "There are 12 keys of coke unaccounted for, but we just got a warrant to search the dealer's apartment" Amy said. Santiago, where are we with the Jay street drug bust?" Terry asked. You guys, Algernon's back" I chant looking at the little brown mouse in front of me. "Get rid of the mouse, and get your act together now" Holt walks away. "You also have more mice living in your desk than any other Detective" Ash opens up my desk. "This folder is labeled "undies, dirty. So I won't confuse it with "undies, clean" I say. "Also, who cares about all these rules? I have more felony arrests than any other Detective here" I hear Ash scoff in the back. "Gah, I should've guessed that" I say as he walks away. "They're both your locker." I hear Ash chuckle in the background. "Here are three cases with sloppy paperwork. Here are two pictures. One is your locker. The other is a garbage dump in the Philippines. Can you tell which is which?" he questions. Ash gave a death glare at her Amy a you-wanna-go look. "It was an amazing solve. I got him to confess in 20 minutes" Ash gloated. "You also mislabeled the evidence, so that confession is worthless if the sergeant hadn't caught your mistake" Amy said. "Let's start with the Kristov murder" Terry said to all of us. "Oh, it's more than one thing" Amy inturupted. "Oh, come on, really? I'm a few minutes late, so you're gonna call me out in front of everyone?" "Good idea. Everyone? Gather round, so I can call out Peralta in front of you" Holt announced as Amy, Scully, Hitchcock and Rosa gathered around. "Okay, fine. I was three minutes late. I'm sorry for doing one thing wrong" Jake murmured. "Not my fault. I had a plumbing problem" Jake says to the captain who is emotionless as always. The interesting thing about the show’s format is that Samberg generally is a good cop…many shows like this have the bumbling cop be a bad cop, but there are plenty of bumbling coworkers to take that role."Ah, Captain" Jake said as he walked into the office. "You're at my desk. Just what I wanna see first thing in the morning." "You're three minutes late, Peralta" Holt said.
Fortunately, he doesn’t carry the whole show and much of the comedy comes from his supporting cast who is equally strong (but they don’t always get solo episode stories).
Samberg is the core of Brooklyn Nine-Nine so if you do have problems with his style of comedy, you probably won’t like the show. It isn’t inane as something like Reno 911!, but it feels more like what both Night Court and Barney Miller would have evolved to in a modern day setting. This is pretty much how Brooklyn Nine-Nine goes with the amount of “case” storyline varying from episode to episode. Generally law comedies are kind of like Barney Miller or Night Court with weird and goofy arrests being made while a storyline about relationships amongst the police develop. I can’t say that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is the most inventive series, but it is smart.
